The Origin Of My Name

My name is Manu Deva. There are two parts to that name, and I will explain each of those parts' meaning and how they came to be my name. I'll start with Manu.

In ancient Hinduism, Manu means the first man in humanity. HIs story is similar to those of Noah and Gilgamesh, in which there was a great flood and how he saved humanity. He was warned of the flood by VIshnu, the God of Protection. The Sanskrit word for human means "children of Manu"

In more modern texts Manu is the ruler/creator of the Earth. He is created by Brahma, the God of Creation. There are 14 Manus in 1 Kalpa, which is a very long period of time. Each the Manus has 1 Manvantara, which is their life span (4.32 billion years). At the end of each Manvantara, the world is destroyed and a new Manu is appointed. Curently the 7th Manu, or the Shraddhadeva Manu is ruling over the world.

That is the 1st part, now onto the 2nd. Deva means heavenly divine, and is 1 of the terms for a deity in Hinduism. In very old ancient HInduism, there were supernatural beings called Asuras. Over time they split into good (Deva) and bad (Asura). In modern Hindu culture Deva also means someone who wants to excel above others. Devas can have to do with nature or moral values. Asuras become either a Deva or Asura based on the actions and decisions they make, although there is a little bit of and good and bad in both.

My name is comprised from 2 very holy and divine ideas and stories in Hinduism, and I am proud of that. Deva is easy to explain because it's my parents' last name. They named me Manu because they wanted my name to have a significance, an importance to it. They wanted it to be special, and I love that. I am proud of how I got my name, and I am grateful for what I have learned to understand it.  Sometimes, the name doesn't feel like what it means. Not that I see myself as an all powerful being, but sometimes it feels like there's no say in some things, and the name doesn't help that. I can't say anything much about my name, but here's what I will say. It carries a lot of weight, but it also feels like it's invisible. I can't go deep into it, because my name is not common, but I am proud of that.

(2 kalpas equal 1 day and night of Brahma (8.32 billion years). 30 days of Brahma equals ! month(259.2 billion years). 12 months of Brahma equals 1 year of Brahma( 3.1104 trillion years). 50 years of Brahma equal 1 Parārdha. 2 Parārdhas equal 1 Maha-Kalpā which is the lifespan of Brahma ( 311.04 trillion years)

If I had to work at a school....

If I had to work at a school, I think I would be a math teacher for 8th grade. When I took a multiple intelligence test the outcomes were mostly geared towards logic and reasoning subjects. Out of them I think I would perform the greatest in math. I have this love for wanting to solve and explain equations, no matter how hard they are, and if I had the chance to pass that onto other kids, it would be great.

I also want to provide the kids with a nice, structured understanding of how math works, because that is needed for life later on. If you don't understand how percents work, you will never be able to understand how discounts work and you'll probably be shortchanged on your money. Even if the kids don't want to become a math teacher, if they want to become microbiologists, they'll need to understand how exponents and powers work in order to study how bacteria reproduce. I think that math is a pillar for many professions, and that kids should know how to use it and apply it to situations.

I chose 8th Grade because they are the most mature in understanding of the subject. Although they might not have a background understanding of the subject that is being taught, they have the mind to comprehend and understand it. I wouldn't want to teach high school and up since those require the patience to be able to deal with the subjects being taught, and I don't want to teach 4th and below since sometimes that requires the patience to deal with the kids being taught.

All in all, I think that being a math teacher would be a suitable profession for me, although it is not at the top of my list.

Food, Glorious Food

Today you will learn about my favorite place to eat, Le Yard house( The Yard house)

The Yard house is a "gourmet" "restaurant" that is a nationwide chain. The reason for the quotations is that I don;t really know how to describe it, as it is a sort of pub/bar but it is still suitable for children. The one I go to is in Glenview, next to a movie theater. It is made out of brick, into the corner of a brick building.

Inside it is large, with elements of wood, metal, glass, and stone throughout. It has many TV screens throughout, so that people can watch sports. I don't know how to very accurately describe it, but it looks amazing. There is a very lengthy menu, with a variety of items, from tacos to pizza to burgers to sandwiches to seafood. My favorite item( I've only been there 2 times) is the Nashville Hot Chicken Burger. It's taste is well balanced, and will stuff you nicely.

One reason why I love the Yard House so much is because of is atmosphere. Even if you're not talking to anyone, it feels so nice to be there seeing people laugh and enjoy themselves. You just can't help but smile. This is why I love the Yard House, food and atmosphere.

My Favorite Childhood Memory

I think my favorite childhood memory is my little yellow Winnie-The-Pooh blanket. It's small and square and yellow, with a red P in the middle with a purple circle around it. Every single time I would go to sleep I would make sure I wouldn't be without it. No matter where we were, at a hotel, someone's house, or even on an airplane, I would never sleep without it. One time when we left a hotel in Ohio, I thought I lost it. I checked under all the sheets, in the desks, under the beds, it was nowhere to be seen. I was so sad and angry that I never wanted to leave the hotel. But a few days after we come back, what do I see at the bottom of my suitcase: The blanket! I was so ecstatic and happy that I made a promise to myself to never lose it again. It was so soft and stretchy. I still have it today, and there aren't any huge holes or rips. I think it's only faded a little bit, but it looks almost the same. I think the reason why I have such a strong bond to it is because it was one of the first objects I saw and experienced as a toddler. As I grew, I knew that it was very important and that I would recognize it immediately when I felt and saw it, even in the dark. It was and still is one of my most significant possessions.

Where do I predict myself in 10 years?

Okay. So in 10 years I see myself either living or finding an apartment, hopefully with one of my close friends or by myself. I really want a dog, specifically a Beauceron or German Shepherd. I'll probably be at or near the end of my college major, as of now either some type of engineer or in architecture. I want to be living a good life, with a strong foundation of money and friends/family around me, and who love me and vice versa. By then I hope I've already been to Europe and/or Australia, and have seen some of the world's greatest people and places, and really have built a library of knowledge and experience in me. I am planning to have learned Hindi, Korean, Chinese, German, and of course Spanish by then( like one of those super cool spies who go around the world! 8D)

I want to become a physically and mentally strong person, capable of handling and overcoming all the problems life will throw at me, and all the problems that I might have to handle in my relationships. I don't want to be a lazy, uninspired person who does nothing with their life or ambitions. I want to study and learn more, but at the same time have fun and enjoy the different experiences that I'll have. Maybe I'll be able to get a Range Rover or Lincoln as a car!

Overall, in 10 years I want to be in a life where I can enjoy and love the people and environment around me, where I can have no worries about problems and be safe.

Down Here! Hopefully I'll have a girlfriend ;)

My Favorite Trip

My favorite trip was my 5th Grade trip to India. My mom and I went for a month. We had to go for a wedding, but my sister didn't go because she was busy. We flew into Dubai for a layover, then made the trip to India. It was really, really fun. My cousins form Britain were at the wedding too, and so were my cousins from Minnesota. We all got to stay at the same hotel, which was really fancy. One of my cousins form  Britain, Ishaan, looked almost exactly like me. We were so alike that everyone mistook us for the same person! At the wedding there was a reception, wedding, and after party. There was an indoor party with huge drums and a throne with the bride and groom on it. Outside there were many ceremonies and auspicious celebrations. We also did some touring around India, where we went to a lot of landmarks. I got to go to the Taj Mahal, were there were so many monkeys and baboons sitting on the edges and pillars. A man came with 2 dancing monkeys, and I got to shake hands with one of them! Another one jumped on my back. I got to see India Gate, and ride on my uncle's motorcycle. After India I went back to Dubai, to stay with my cousins. I got to ride a camel in the desert, and ride an ATV around the dunes. We went to the largest shopping mall in the world, where there was an aquarium! It was the best vacation I've ever had.

Favorite Inspirational Quote

I love this quote because it creates such a good message. Whenever you feel that no one appreciates you, you feel like people just don't want anything to do with you, or that they are just mean, ignore them and keep on pushing. You don't need people to judge your efforts, to criticize your hard work. They don't know how much work you've been putting into your creations or thoughts. You always should just keep on going and going and going. That way those people run out of ideas to criticize you, and can't do anything to bring you down. That is why I love this quote.
